Do One Thing At A Time

Do One Thing At A Time | Yoga Practice Intention

Phone commercials tell us it’s a good thing to “talk and surf at the same time.” We want computers that are not slowed down when a dozen windows are open simultaneously. We send emails and text messages while we wait in line at the grocery store. Despite the compelling science to prove otherwise, we think multitasking makes us smarter, faster, better. In fact, it is contributing to our stress and unproductivity.

We’ve grown so accustomed to this hypertasking, it is difficult for us to downshift to a lower gear. This week, let’s use our yoga practice to strengthen our ability to monotask.

When you are on the mat and begin to itch for your phone or the remote or some other distraction, resist. Let the uncomfortable feelings arise. Just sit with them. They’ll soon pass and leave you lighter in their wake. Use your yoga practice to cultivate a singular focus.

May this be a week, a season, where our resolve to do only one thing at a time is strengthened.

What do you think?

  1. I love this. I get so many balls in the air trying to juggle several tasks at the same time that if when I pull it off, I wind up extremely stressed – and no fun to be around! I’m in!
