This week I’m telling a story. You can read the introduction here and part one here.

The town of Yountville, in the beautiful Napa Valley, was just the place Logic had in mind to silence Heart once and for all. The word “escape” was literally etched into every detail that surrounded me here – our Tuscan-inspired hotel, the cuisine of some of the country’s most celebrated chefs, and the wine, oh the wine.

My first glass of wine after letting go of my first child was had at a tasting at my favorite vineyard. I could barely hear the words of the Sommelier over the cries of Heart as I took my first sips.

“You’re not supposed to be able to drink. You should be nurturing a growing life in your womb. This is so unfair! The only flavor notes you should pick up are agony and despair.”

“Be quiet!” Logic demanded. “Listen to the words of the Sommelier. They, along with the wine, will carry you away to a place of peace and comfort.”

A few sips turned into a few glasses, and before long, I could no longer hear the cries of Heart. Logic was victorious.

But, Logic was wrong about one thing. Heart wasn’t in a place of “peace and comfort.” Heart was just reeling from the pain of being forced into silence. Logic’s cold numbness gave Heart no choice but to harden.

The story continues tomorrow when God Almighty uses the words of a friend and mentor to free Heart from the oppressive hand of Logic.
